Outside
Tui Courtyard House is named for its unique BBQ courtyard circled by two wings of the house and a large Pohutukawa tree, an excellent shelter for native Tui birds.
The house looks south to sea and bush and north to the courtyard and sun. It is very private, restful and quiet.
Courtyard & House
Tui Courtyard House is on two levels. On the upper level is a comfortable kitchen and lounge areas with a large oval Macrocarpa feature table, easy chairs, TV and DVD player.
Bedroom 1
There are four bedrooms: two upstairs each with a double and a single bed and two downstairs where one has a double and a single bed and the second has a single bed and desk. A cot is also available for infants.
Bedroom 3
A variety of birds, including Tui, Kereru, Fantails, Waxeyes, Kingfisher, and Hawks, are often in view from the windows beside the bush and you can hear the calls of Moreporks in the night. Even Longtailed Cuckoos have been spotted just 10 feet from the window.
Kitchen
A new tiled bathroom has shower, toilet and full washing facilities.
The kitchen is well equipped with stove, microwave, refrigerator and all the needed cooking utensils and crockery. A herb garden by the entrance to the house and courtyard has greens and herbs for residents’ use.
Bathroom
The Retreat property is at the top of Blackpool Bay on land that slopes towards the sea and is entirely private and protected from road traffic and noise. It has been developed gradually over the forty six years of the present ownership. Beaches and shops are ten minutes' walk away and the Mataitai passenger ferry wharf is twenty minutes' walk or five minutes by taxi.
Dining room
The houses are popular for family holidays, wedding accommodation and seminars all year round.
A valuable feature is that the Kereru Cottage at Tahatai Retreat is in the same one and a half acre garden. It is on its own section and orients towards its own private courtyard and BBQ area.
Living area
Renting both houses provides for family or work groups of approximately twelve people. Both houses are fully self contained and furnished and can be rented separately or together. Both houses can seat twelve to sixteen for dining or meeting purposes.
